are aiming to pray on Sunday, it is important to draw the attention of the sovereign Gambian people that Governance is a contract based on a Constitution. Religious Rights are part of such a contract. Section 25 of the Constitution states that: (1) Every person shall have the right to- (b) freedom of thought, conscience and belief, which shall include academic freedom; (c) freedom to practise any religion and to manifest such practice. Some people have their own justification for commemorating ID UL ADHA on Saturday and others on Sunday. To deny any of them the right to commemorate the day as the conscience dictates would constitute the violation of their right to religious freedom. Those who rely on the state to promote their own practices are encouraging state interference in religious matters which could have far reaching implications. It is best for the scholars to debate among themselves to convince each other and agree to disagree where they are unable to convince each other .This is the best way to defend religious freedom in a sovereign Republic. Puritanism in religion leads to the intolerance of ISIS in Syria/Iraq , An Sarudin in Mali and Boka Haram in Nigeria. Africa needs to be saved from such religious intolerance. Those who lament over the injustices of slavery and colonialism should not impose new forms of intolerance on their people under the pretext of being the custodian of the correct path.]]>
