Demba ‘Touray’ Darboe in NIA Custody for 129 Days

Today marks 129 days since Mr.  Demba S.  Darboe, aka ‘Touray Darboe’, who is confirmed as mentally disturbed, was picked up Dembo Darboefrom his home in Kafuta, Kombo East, and detained at the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) head office in Banjul.

He was arrested from his home on Saturday, 16 April, 2016, in the presence of his family, by two men in plain clothes and was initially taken away to an unknown destination.

According to his family, they have not been having access to him for a very long time now since he was met for the first and only time by his sister at the NIA head office.

Speaking to his younger brother, Balla Musa Darboe, on Sunday August 21, he said the family, particularly their mother and Touray Darboes’s wife are very much disturbed by his long detention considering his state of mental health and for not having access to him.

It could be recalled that Touray Darboe, who is mentally unstable, was arrested by two plain clothes personnel of the NIA more than four months ago. Since then he has not been charged or brought to court for any wrong doing.
