The Home-based Scorpions will take on Algeria in little over a week in a crucial encounter to fight for a spot in theTotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN). The winner of the double-legged qualifiers will join other African local-based teams in the competition to be played in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda later this year.
The Home-based Scorpions will host the first leg at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on Saturday 3rd May, before travelling to Algeria for the return leg on Friday, 9th May, 2025.
The Gambian team has since begun training at the National Technical Training Center in Old Yundum ahead of the double encounters.
Last Wednesday, Head Coach Alhagie Sarr invited two players to join the fold “to beef up the general strength of the team in preparation for the home leg against Algeria.”
“Former Real de Banjul star Pa Modou Sohna, who recently joined BST Galaxy from Moroccan first tier side Had Soualem FC and Hart FC goalkeeper Abdoulie Bayo, both joined the team in today’s training,” GFF Media stated.
The team kicked off week two of its training on Monday and Coach Sarr invited two additional players to join the group.
“Fortune FC striker Gaira Joof and his club mate Abdoulie Tamba, who plays as a center back, both joined the team in training today, taking the number of available players to 27,” GFF Media stated.
