Former German Bundesliga club Hamburg have leaped to the defense of under pressure Gambian footballer Bakery Jatta.

The 21-year-old yet-to-be-capped winger is battling cleaning his image of allegations of fraud.

It all began with Sport BILD a German Sport site’s claims that Bakery has a double identity, alleging the Gambian falsified his documents and thus hoodwinked his to way to second tier club Hamburg SV.

The matter is being probed by the German FA and Hamburg’s district office.

However, his club Hamburg FC have come to his defense in the wake of recent smattering of boos he was subjected to by 15,000 opposition fans.

‘Let whistles or insults cease on this and focus on the support of our Hamburg sports club from 1896. Especially racist insults have no place with us! As long as no ruling has been made, apply the presumption of innocence. This why we’re calling on all fans to treat Bakery Jatta like any other player,’ a statement from the clubwebsite yesterday evening, read.

Jatta risks getting sacked, his playing license seized or even deportation if found guilty of the allegations.
