Sheikh Muhideen Hydara, the Caliph General of Darsilameh Sangajor
yesterday told the magistrate’s court in Brikama that they would not testify in the absence of their lawyer.
The accused persons were asked by Principal Magistrate Omar Cham to narrate their side of the story. The trial magistrate stated that the counsel for the accused
persons, Lamin K. Mboge, called to inform him that he could not
come. He went on to say that the accused persons can proceed to narrate their
own part of the story. He said the reason is that the accused persons are old men and frequent delays of the matter would affect them.
When this information was translated to the accused persons,
the first accused person, Hydara, who was sitting on a chair told the court that
he would not testify in the absence of their lawyer because since the beginning of the case, he has been the one speaking on their behalf.
The trial magistrate then said the accused persons have the right to
remain silent since they are represented, but added that on the next
adjourned date whether or not the counsel is present in court, the
matter will proceed.
At that juncture, the matter was adjourned till 23
February, 2015 at 2pm.]]>
