Babucarr Njie is confirmed as the soldier who was arrested in possession of a gun at the King Fahd Mosque in Banjul last Friday, 10 February,  where President Adama Barrow was expected to perform his ‘Juma’ prayers.

Yaya Drammeh, the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) Public Relations Officer (PRO), who confirmed the name to Foroyaa, said the said soldier is not in their custody as he was arrested by the Police Intervention Unit (PIU) personnel and ECOMIG soldiers on the ground on that day.

This reporter further made efforts to talk to the police PRO at the Police headquarters but could not access him through the phone.

When the neighbours of Babucarr Njie in old Yundum were contacted, they told this reporter that he is yet to return home.

Njie is a soldier who was said to have been stationed at the State Guard but was moved recently.

Foroyaa will be giving updates on the issue as an when information is available.
