Baboucarr Jeng has declared his Candidature for the forthcoming Mayoral elections in the Kanifing Municipality, as an Independent Candidate. Mr. Jeng made this disclosure to pressmen on Saturday, 16th December 2017.

The aspiring Mayoral candidate who uses the slogan ‘‘We voted for Changes; Now it’s time to vote for Progress’’, said it is time for voters within the Municipality to vote for the candidate they think will wipe their tears, especially those voters living in the Bakoteh / Manjai dump site area.

“Local Government is an arm of Government that is established to solve local problems at the grassroots level, because the Central Government knows that they cannot do it alone. If the local Government does not do their work, then innocent people suffer,” he said. Mr. Jeng said he is ready to sacrifice his life, wealth and time, just to make sure that the dump site is changed in the interest of residents and not continue to polluting the vicinity.

“When you come to the issue of markets within the KMC, the situation is appallingly worse. The high level of tax they put on vendors, impoverishes them and forces many to go out of business”, he said. Mr. Jeng further said the whole of the Municipality’s problems need to be addressed as soon as possible; that his hope is to develop the Municipal Council because he has the means to do it. He urged the inhabitants to vote wisely so that they will move out from the suffering they face at the hands of the Municipal Council. Mr. Jeng said he does not believe in party politics; that this is why he did not contest under a political party; that instead he believes in national development, and youth empowerment.

Mr. Lamin Conteh who spoke on behalf of the dump site committee said the community of Bakoteh and Manjai have endorsed the candidature of Mr. Baboucarr Jeng and they are ready to work with him.

“We will make sure that Mr. Jeng achieves his goal as he was with us during the crises. When we were engaging Government on the issue of the dump site, Baboucarr was with us and this shows the concern he has for the environment,” he said. He said the people of Manjai and Bakoteh should open their eyes and vote for the right candidate.

Various other speakers expressed similar sentiments.
