Gambian security agents have completed their investigation on the case of three military detainees arrested in July this year by the Gambia Armed Forces, army spokesperson said Tuesday.
Major Lamin K. Sanyang said the three soldiers are now waiting for disciplinary action as recommended by the board of investigators.
He added that the joint investigators that probed into the case of these detainees were personnel from the offices of the President, Inspector General of Police, National Intelligence Agency, Gambia Armed Forces and National Security Adviser.
Charges
“The board can only make recommendations, but the charges are to be determined by another authority like their Commanding Officer,’’ GAF PRO said, adding “The recommendation is for disciplinary action to be taken against the soldiers by the competent authority.’’
He said the investigation was concluded in late September, 2019.
The detained soldiers are: Lance Corporal Lamin Sannneh, Lance Corporal Ousman Jammeh, Lance Corporal Lamin Touray. They are still in military custody at Fajara Barracks. Their family members are allowed to visit to them.
The officers were allegedly accused of attempting to gun down the military chief, but GAF PRO in his response said, “Well, our investigation is not looking at only one aspect, but instead we’re looking at everything like act of indiscipline.”
In July 2019, military chief General Masanneh Kinteh, ordered the head of the military police to immediately arrest and conduct an investigation into the affairs of the said soldiers. Six people were arrested while 3 others escaped and are still on the run.
Corporal Omar Camara, Lance Corporal Lamin E. Jarju and Manga Bah Warrant Officer Class 1 were later freed by the army after they were questioned by the board, but the rest were held at Fajara barracks.
