AGREEMENT TO SETTLE THE TRANSPORT DISPUTE BETWEEN GAMBIA AND SENEGAL AND CONNECTED MATTERS

92

Foroyaa has been reliably informed that there are 353 transports from Senegal waiting to cross over The Gambia that were held up because of disputes on custom charges and fees. The transport unions almost took the matter into their own hands but later left matters to the Gambian and Senegalese authorities.

Section 79 of the Constitution empowers the executive to negotiate and sign international agreements which of course must be ratified by the National Assembly to be concluded. Foroyaa has been reliably informed that standing on existing protocols transports transiting The Gambia could freely move within the first 24 hours across the border freely without the payment of any fees or other charges. However after the 24 hours, a tracking system will be instituted to be able to track transports that are transiting to Casamance and those staying in The Gambia to ensure that the proper fees are paid according to the agreement.

Foroyaa will publish the full details of the agreement once it is available for publication.
