The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) has announced the replacement of the domestic tax system GAMTAXNET with a new web-based Integrated Tax Administration System (ITAS) to improve efficiency, transparency, and service delivery.
The reform follows a 2018 Tax Administration Diagnostics Assessment Tool (TADAT) review, which highlighted weaknesses in the existing system and recommended a more robust, digital alternative.
Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe said the transition is being financed by the World Bank’s Public Administration Modernization for Citizen-Centric Service Delivery Project (PAMP). He noted that ITAS will reduce compliance time, minimize human error, and create a reliable digital record of all transactions.
“The ITAS replaces traditional paperwork by automating manual tax processes, resulting in more efficient digital interactions,” Darboe explained.
Deputy Commissioner General Essa Jallow described ITAS as part of GRA’s broader modernization drive. “For many years, the Gambia Revenue Authority has been on a journey of transformation—to modernize our tax and customs processes, enhance efficiency, and foster a culture of voluntary compliance,” he said.
ITAS Project Manager Samba Sallah emphasized the role of clearing and forwarding agents in the success of the system. “As trusted advisors to businesses and individuals, your participation is critical. This is not just a passive learning session but a collaborative platform to adapt effectively to these changes,” he told stakeholders.
Once launched, ITAS is expected to usher in a fundamental shift in Gambia’s tax administration, offering taxpayers greater convenience, simplicity, and security. GRA officials have urged citizens and businesses to embrace the change to ensure a smooth and successful transition.
