By Sulayman Bah The Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) has been okayed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), said the Bureau’s Abdoulie Jallow. Olympic House’s second vice president made this disclosure at a monthly face to face with affiliate national sports associations, last Friday. Held at the Bureau’s complex at Mile Seven, Mr. Jallow, who also doubles as Basketball Association’s Secretary General, said the GNOC’s finances have been given a clean bill of health by the IOC. The auditing, which is part of the IOC’s routine scrutiny of affiliate national Olympic committees, was held in June and that the international body has since lauded Gambia’s handling of its finances, according to the second vice prexy. On financial assistance rendered to national sporting associations, the second vice president said the amount of D2, 400,000 has been forked out with athletics getting the bulk due to their involvement in the qualifiers for Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Mr. Jallow also revealed that the membership fees of some sporting disciplines have been settled with their respective international federations while urging others to hasten up to avoid delay. On the subject matter of the secretariat, the second vice prexy, who was the only speaker at the briefing, said funds have been secured to ease the burden of association without a secretariat. “As we speak now, all the computers for the secretariat have arrived and waiting to be installed,” said Mr. Jallow. Boost for Independence Stadium, SK East Courts Bakau Independence Stadium is set for a facelift after Olympic Solidarity re-activated US $175,000 as contribution for tracks construction. The amount has been paid to the International Association of Athletics Federation directly, Jallow divulges, saying funds have also been secured for the refurbishment of SK East basketball and volleyball courts as well. Also speaking was the Bureau’s boss Momodou Dibba who dwelled on the ANOCA ZONEII activity plan. Date for GNOC AGM for the presentation of the 2013, 2014 activity plans is yet to be named.]]>
