Former President of the Republic, Macky Sall, has been selected as the head of the national list of the “Takku Wallu Senegal” coalition, a move that shows the 2024 parliamentary elections could be fiercely contested.
According to DakarActu, former President Sall was chosen as the head of the Takku Wallu Senegal Coalition comprising the Alliance for the Republic (APR), the Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS) and Rewmi. The Takku Wallu Senegal coalition, created by these political parties in view of the early legislative elections of November 17, 2024, aims to scoop several seats in the parliament.
They have come together to compete with PASTEF, thus shaking up the country’s political landscape with a strong choice of leadership.
The former President of the Republic will face Ousmane Sonko, current Prime Minister of Senegal, during the polls.
This choice, which may seem surprising to some people, is based on several strategic and pragmatic reasons, analysts say. With his experience and record, he seems to be the right man to lead this crucial political battle.
In another development, the three largest political coalitions, “Takku Wallu Senegal”, “Samm Sa Kaddu: Save Senegal” and “Jamm Ak Njariñ”, have decided to unite under an inter-coalition in order to maximize their chances of success against Ousmane Sonko’s Pastef party, reports say, with ‘Jamm Ak Njarin’ leader Amadou Ba pulling out of the interparty coalition.
