Gambia Has no Mpox Case, MoH Says

The Ministry of Health in a press release stated that the Gambia has not received any Mpox cases yet, therefore, it assured Gambians that ‘there is no need for panic’ amidst the outbreak of Mpox in the continent. 

The World Health Organization declared the ongoing Mpox outbreak in Africa a global health emergency last week.

“The Ministry of Health is vigilant and has already strengthened the national surveillance system to promptly detect and respond to any potential cases of Mpox,” the Ministry stated. 

The Ministry said they are working with the African CDC, WHO, WAHO to respond to any cases.  They are working to enhance surveillance, cross border collaboration, public awareness campaign, preparedness and response plans. 

The Ministry further said declaration of Mpox as a Public Health Emergency ‘is a serious development for the Ministry and them “taking all necessary steps”.

“We urge the public to remain calm and vigilant, adhere to public guidelines, and report any unusual symptoms to healthcare providers,” the Ministry further stated.
