Ghanaian President, Nana Akufo-Addo, had a day’s working visit to The Gambia last Friday 12 July 2024, for a mutual interest discussion with his Gambian counterpart, President Adama Barrow.
The two presidents had a private conversation at Statehouse where President Barrow hosted lunch on his counterpart’s behalf.
President Akufo-Addo also visited the Ghanaian contingent of Ecomig in Barra, who are deployed to The Gambia by ECOWAS.
As indicated by the two presidents, their tête-à-tête was centered on the bilateral relationship between their two countries, as well as how to strengthen the long-standing ties of the Gambia-Ghana friendship.
As President Addo’s planned press briefing at the Banjul International Airport did not materialize before his departure, the Ghanaian president instead gave a short speech to press men and women in the hallway of the VVIP Lounge, indicating that he has had constructive discussions with President Adama Barrow, on matters of mutual concern and interest.
Meanwhile, information gathered by this medium indicates that President Akufo-Addo’s visit and discussion with President Barrow also touched on Gambia’s support for Ghana’s candidacy for the position of Commonwealth Secretary General.
After the Ghanaian president’s departure, President Barrow in his briefing to journalists, said Ghana has been “very supportive to the Gambia and the Ghanaian leader’s visit was a working visit to discuss bilateral issues and other issues of the sub-region.”
