The Gambia Police Force (GPF) on Monday announced that it has intercepted a yellow taxi carrying five (5) suspected stolen sheep in Brufut during routine police inspections – which saw the driver flee from the police.
The incident, police say, unfolded at approximately 6 pm when officers in Brufut police Anti-Crime asked the driver to park for inspection. With a registration number BJL-5282X, the driver abandoned his taxi and fled the scene, it adds.
But during a search inside the taxi, police added that its detectives discovered five sheep, which they believe were stolen.
“The sheep and the taxi are currently under custody of the Anti-Crime base in Brufut as part of ongoing investigation into the incident,’’ said police.
The police, however, encouraged members of the public to contact the Anti-Crime base at Brufut if they identify the stolen goods as theirs.
Meanwhile, when contacted for comment on the matter – Cadet ASP Binta Njie, the spokesperson for the police couldn’t be reached. Her cell phone keeps ringing without any answer.
However, a source within the force says detectives are still looking for clues surrounding the matter as well as tips to get the driver – who could help the investigation process.
