The GGC Management has urged secco Presidents across the country to henceforth cease credit buying.
Foroyaa has laid hands on a recording of Lamin Fofana business development manager at GGC, in which he urged the secco presidents to cease taking groundnuts from farmers on credit. Instead they should wait till the farmers who sold their nuts on credit at all buying points have been settled, adding that AGIB Bank will be going round to supply cash.
“We are all aware that farmers are talking all over that they have sold their groundnuts on credit to the seccos, but still they could not get their money. To make things easy for you (secco presidents), the GGC and everybody, we are therefore urging you to cease credit buying henceforth as AGIB is going around to settle all those who bought on credit,” Fofana urged.
GGC’s business development manager added that no secco president should take groundnuts from farmers on credit until and unless those bought on credit are completely settled.
He assured that after completely settling those arrears, the cash would be always available at all the buying points (seccos) and then anybody who comes with groundnuts can get their money immediately after weighing.
To confirm the author and its contents, this reporter reached out to Fofana and he confirmed that he was the author of that WhatsApp audio.
“Yes I made that audio urging the secco presidents to cease credit buying as AGIB is going round to all seccos amid trying to settle farmers who sold their nuts on credit and there are fifty-four (54) seccos or buying points, but before reaching the seccos, farmers continue complaining and the complaints are not helping,” Mr. Fofana confirmed.
He stressed that as a result, all credit buying should stop until and unless all the arrears are completely settled and assured that cash will be paid up front.
Foroyaa will continue to monitor the groundnut trade season and keep its readers updated on any development.
