Salaries are reported to have increased, but many people who bought rams last year for the Tobaski feast will not be able to do so this year. Some claim that even if the prices were lower, they would not have the money to buy rams. Others say the prices of rams are so high that it is not worth spending such money. Regardless of the explanation, the number of people who visit the places where rams are traditionally sold in the Greater Banjul Area has drastically reduced.
Foroyaa is monitoring these areas and would come to something conclusive on the last day of sale. The indicators so far reveal growing incapacity to purchase rams because of both poverty and inflation. This should be noted and policies developed to address the problem.
The Constitution of the Republic is clear. The authority of government must be derived from the people and must be utilised to promote the general welfare of the people.
