The Chief Justice has echoed this dictum in his speech during the legal year celebration on Sunday. He expressed his dissatisfaction with the delay in the disposal of court cases and has come up with propositions on tackling the problem.
This includes decongesting the courts by making it a condition to first try to settle a civil dispute before filing a suit. Issuing Practice Directives and visiting the remand wing of the prison to ensure that prosecutors don’t unfairly prolong cases especially if the accused is remanded. There is also a plan to improve on technical, professional skills and competences to enhance efficiency in the delivery of justice, and so and so forth.
Foroyaa has been receiving numerous complaints of delays in the disposal of cases and will be monitoring the implementation of the plan.
