By Sulayman Bah Banjul United are fired up on writing a club record to clinch the Banjul UnitedFA Cup on their first attempt. The club won promotion to the Gambian first division last season maintaining their PL status on an impressive standing at the end of the league. Rarely do promoted clubs dominate newspaper back pages in FA Cup competitions with an early exit the usual routine. But this capital-based outfit is deservingly basking in all the glories after pulling of shock, but laudable results on their way to the finals. Victory will see Ebou Fayes’ charges clinch their first gong in a debut season in the top flight. Banjul Hawks stand in the way of such a feat being achieved. Ebou Faye –also a seasoned administrator –however remains buoyed of defying the odds despite arch rivals Hawks being their adversaries on the night of the final. “We are training and we are waiting for them (the NC) to hold a date (for the finals). Playing in the first division in the first year and winning the FA Cup the same season will be excellent for Banjul Football Club,” Faye told Foroyaa Sport yesterday. Faye could bath in the limelight for guiding this setup littered with youngsters to the finals, but all the hard work hasn’t come without the club’s former coach Saine’s involvement who resigned in April. A date for the grand final is yet to be decided but organizers plan to hold it after the Ramadan.]]>
