Without The Draft Constitution Coming To Life Would The Women Make It To Parliament And The Councils?

352

QUESTION OF THE DAY

The draft Constitution provides for 14 automatic seats for women in the National Assembly. Currently there are only three elected women in the National Assembly. This indicates how difficult it is for women to stand and contest elections under the present political climate. Hence Foroyaa is wondering why some women at the national assembly oppose the draft Constitution. Foroyaa would continue to get their views and publish them for enlightenment.

All should agree to work together for a better society. If positive steps are not taken towards that direction it would be a mere lip service to women’s participation in decision making at the highest level.
