The Act establishing the TRRC provides immunity to the Commissioners, the Executive Secretary and staff.

In short, section 11 of the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Act states:
“A Commissioner or former commissioner shall not be subject to civil or criminal proceedings for any act done or omitted to be done in good faith in the performance of his or her official functions.”

Section 25 of the same Act adds:
“The Executive Secretary or any other staff of the Commission shall not be subject to civil or criminal proceedings for any act done or omitted to be done in good faith in the official performance of their functions.”
