Why did Barrow ignore the debate around his tenure of office in his address to the National Assembly?

QUESTION OF THE DAY

The best opportunity President Barrow had in putting a final settlement on the controversy around his tenure was to announce his decision and then leave the Gambian population to commence a seriously meant debate for the final shaping of public opinion on the basis of what law and reason dictates. By avoiding to give an official statement on the divergent views regarding his tenure, others will be speaking for him while others express their opposition. In actual fact he should speak for himself and stand by his own words to enable every Gambian to take a stand based on what they consider to be the dictates of the Constitution and reason.

Foroyaa will continue to monitor the debate.
