By Sulayman Bah The Olympic House, besieged and forced to close operation, has been re-opened by government, Foroyaa Sport can reveal. The decision to open the complex, this publication understands, follows the Ministry of Youth and Sports written request to the Interior ministry for the Police Intervention Unit personnel to be withdrawn from the bureau. The move, is welcomed by Gambia National Olympic Committee. The Switzerland-based international body last month, invited the NOC and government to a meeting in a bid to resolve the impasse. The convergence, wrapped up with IOC’s ultimatum ordering government to return the complex and its properties as well as rescind the travel ban it placed on the GNOC board. However, the structure has now been opened and staff and executives alike are expected to resume work today morning. Confirming the news, Momodou Dibba, president of the NOC said yesterday evening, “the place has been opened today and without conditions.” The new development comes two days before an IOC executive board meeting slated for this Wednesday. It comes seven days past the October 13th deadline set by the International Olympic Committee. Relationship between government and the GNOC executives has been at best tempestuous after the former slammed the latter’s presidential elections, held last year, as sham.]]>
