Police investigators have booked two suspected armed robbers over Thursday shooting in Fajara, according to law enforcement officials.

In a short statement, the police say the armed men stormed a compound intending to rob a man but the operation failed, culminating in the suspects firing gun shots in the air which brought panic among residents and paved way for them to flee the scene.

The suspects were arrested with pistols and ammunition after police launched a manhunt 48 hours after the incident, it added.

Police said their preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects intended to forcibly break into the complainant’s residence to rob him, believing he had money.

“During their escape, they fired shots and fled in a BMW. The vehicle, pistol, and ammunition are all recovered. Both suspects are under police custody as investigations continue,” said the police.

Meanwhile, when contacted for further comment, PRO Cadet ASP Binta Njie confirmed the arrest of the suspects as the police set to press charges against them.

She reported: “Two (2) suspects, both male, including the one who had the confrontation with the victim and shot in the air and the one who was waiting in the vehicle, who is said to be the owner of the allegedly use weapon, are in police custody.”
